Lincoln Police Chief remembers Retired Corporal Bob Rawlins

Retired Corporal, and former Lincoln Chief of Police, Robert “Bob” Rawlins passed away at approximately 11:55 a.m. on February 28"’, 2023. His death will be mourned by many, especially by his family and his Lincoln Police and Logan County Sheriff's Department families. Bob honorably served the citizens of Lincoln for over 30 years as a Lincoln Police Officer and continued his service to our community for nearly another 9 years, working as a Court Security Officer for the Logan County Sheriff's Department.

Lincoln Police Corporal Bob Rawlins began his career on March 29", 1982 and retired from the Department on March 30"', 2012. Bob served the community in several assignments as a Policeman. He was the first K9 handler for the Lincoln Police Department, serving in that capacity from 1990-1998. Bob also served on the Emergency Response Team, acting as the Team Leader for a portion of his time on the team. Bob also served as our Chief of Police from August 16"', 2004 to April 30th, 2007.

During his career, Bob was awarded for his bravery and heroism on several occasions. His personnel file is overflowing with Department Commendations and letters of gratitude from citizens and congressmen alike. In 1999, Bob kicked in the door of a burning home and rushed into a fire, saving the lives of two unconscious children, ages 5 months and 3 years. Bob is the only Lincoln Police Officer to be named Officer of the Year on 3 three occasions; 2001, 2009 and 2011.

While on duty, Tuesday, February 28", 202c, providing security at the Logan County Courthouse, Bob suffered a medical emergency which he could not survive. Bob died while continuing his service to our citizens. His loss is immeasurable to those he served. Bob, although tough, always offered a smile to those he met. His positive impact on the lives of the people he served will ripple throughout history. He lived a life of service to his family, our Country and our community. Bob Rawlins was a shining example of a true Police Officer; one that we can all learn something from.

On behalf of the Lincoln Police Department, I’d like to express our condolences to the Rawlins family, Bob's friends and to our community.

We lost one of the best of our good guys. Lincoln Police Officer and Logan County Sheriffs Court Security Officer Robert Rawlins will be sorely missed.
