Turner was able to walk off the field with a
trainer, who held a towel to Turner's bleeding face.
"He's receiving treatment for soft tissue injuries, and is being
monitored for a concussion," the Red Sox posted on social media.
"He will undergo further testing, and we'll update as we have
more information. Justin is stable, alert and in good spirits
given the circumstances."
Turner's wife, Kourtney Turner, took to social media late in the
afternoon to report that her husband's scans came back clear, he
did not suffer any facial fractures and he had returned home.
Turner, 38, was hit in the first inning. He drew the start at
first base, a relatively new position for the 14-year veteran.
Turner has appeared in just 39 career games at first. Boston
also plans to use him at designated hitter.
The Red Sox signed Turner to a two-year deal worth $22 million
in January.
A two-time All-Star, Turner hit .278 with 13 home runs and 81
RBIs in 128 games in 2022. Over nine seasons with the Los
Angeles Dodgers, he hit .296 with 156 homers and 574 RBIs and
was an integral part of their 2020 World Series championship. He
hit .320 in the Fall Classic that year.
Turner has batted .289 with 164 homers and 663 RBIs in 14
seasons with the Baltimore Orioles (2009-10), New York Mets
(2010-13) and Dodgers (2014-22).
Manning, 25, went 2-3 with a 3.43 ERA in 12 starts with the
Tigers in 2022.
Manning took the loss Monday after allowing four earned runs on
four hits in 1 1/3 innings in Boston's 7-1 victory.
