The
Illini lost their first game in the Big Ten Tourney at the United
Center in Chicago, 76-79. Illinois had a couple of nice runs in the
contest, but after a Dain Dainja bucket that he was fouled on,
inadvertent contact led to 2 PSU converted free throws and the ball;
and Illinois never recovered.
Illinois only converted 6 3-pointers good for only 29 percent from
distance while the Lions made 8…more than enough to settle the
matter. The Illini also struggled at the free throw line and by not
cashing in on those opportunities it led to the disappointing loss.

The Illini will now await their NCAA tournament
fate at the selection show Sunday night. Conventional wisdom has the
Illini possibly garnering a 9 or 10 seed. The loss dropped Illinois
to 20-12 on the season.
