 The
Logan County Housing Coalition has identified the lack of
transitional housing for veterans in central Illinois and other
individuals at risk of homelessness or homeless. The members have
concluded that providing shelter and various supportive services in
one location is the best model and most effective way to address
these local needs. The coalition has a vision of organizations
working together to provide services to the clients they share and
the general public. Examples of on-site support services include
behavioral health counseling, substance use treatment and recovery.
The coalition is excited to announce that it has been
awarded a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration (SAMHSA). SAMHSA’s GAINS Center’s Criminal Justice
Learning Collaborative Addressing the Housing Needs of People with
Behavioral Health Conditions who are Justice Involved that will
provide direct training and technical assistance to the housing
coalition.

There were only five applications granted across the
country to assist in developing a strategic plan to deal with
housing needs at the community level. This housing coalition will
participate along with grantees from teams in Pennsylvania,
Wisconsin, and Hawaii. The kick-off meeting is scheduled for the end
