It is with great sadness and the utmost respect we
make the following announcement:
Robert “Bob” Rawlins passed away at approximately 11:55 a.m. on
February 28th, 2023. While actively serving in the line of duty as a
Logan County Court Security Officer at the Logan County Courthouse,
Bob suffered a medical emergency to which he later succumbed.
Bob Rawlins public service career began March 29th, 1982 when he was
hired as a patrol officer for the Lincoln Police Department. He
served the community in several assignments while there. He was the
first K9 handler for the Lincoln Police Department, serving in that
capacity from 1990-1998. Bob also served on the Emergency Response
Team, acting as the Team Leader for a portion of his time on the
team. Bob went on to serve as the Chief of Police from August 16th,
2004 to April 30th, 2007. After returning to the patrol division,
Bob retired as a Lincoln Police Corporal on March 30th, 2012.
Lincoln Police Chief Meister shared that during his tenure with
Lincoln Police Department, Bob was awarded for his bravery and
heroism on several occasions. He shared specifically that in 1999,
Bob kicked in the door of a burning home subsequently saving the
lives of two very young children. Bob is the only Lincoln Police
Officer to be named Officer of the Year on 3 three occasions; 2001,
2009 and 2011.

After retirement, Bob made the decision to continue
serving this community and joined the Logan County Sheriff s Office
on July 15, 2014 as a Courthouse Security Officer. While serving the
public in that capacity, Bob was assigned the rank of Chief of
Courthouse Security where he served until his passing.
Bob was a man of dedication, specifically to his
family. He was a shining light to many, touching everyone that saw
his smile, stopped to talk with him, or otherwise was able to have
just a few fleeting moments with him. Bob honorably and with the
same dedication served the citizens of Lincoln for over 30 years as
a Lincoln Police Officer and continued that service and dedication
for almost another 9 years as a Logan County Court Security Officer.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Rawlins
family, knowing that his passing will be mourned by many.
A family member, a friend, a colleague and a respected public
servant will be missed. However, the relationships Bob forged along
the way are the true testament of the person behind the badge.
Respectfully,
Sheriff mark Landers
