Railsplitters open season with 10-6 win over Olympia

The Railsplitters baseball team kicked off their 2023 season on Wednesday afternoon at the new and improved turf baseball field in Lincoln known as Mike Curry Field.

Mammen started the game and tossed three innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out three batters and walking five batters. The Spartans scored five runs off Mammen.

Brenden Wurth pitched four innings for the Railsplitters. Wurth allowed one run and five hits. He struck out five batters while walking one batter.

At the plate, Colbie Glenn, Trey Schilling and Michael Lucas each had three hits apiece.

Glenn was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Schilling was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Lucas was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

Jaden Leadley, Brenden Wurth, Drew Hayes and Ashton Corley also had hits for the Railsplitters.

Lincoln had a 3-0 lead heading into the third inning, when the Spartans tied things up at 3-3. In the bottom of the third inning the Railsplitters took a 5-3 lead as Wurth smacked a two-run single to center field.

The Spartans tied the game in the top of the fourth inning and the Railsplitters made another comeback in the bottom of the inning, scoring three times to take an 8-5 lead.

Lucas and Schilling each drove in runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, allowing Lincoln to go ahead 10-6.

Lincoln will host Sacred Heart-Griffin today at 4:30 p.m. at Mike Curry Field.
