The
Lincoln Railsplitters defeated Metamora 12-5 on Friday for their
only win of the week.
Colbie Glenn doubled to start the game in the top of the first
inning and he would come around to score the first run of the game
after a sacrifice fly by Brenden Wurth.
The Redbirds took a 3-1 lead after a big inning in the second.
Down 4-1, the Railsplitters tied the game in the top of the fourth
inning. A walk to Jaden Leadley, a hit by pitch to Brenden Wurth and
an error allowed Lincoln to load the bases. With two outs, Drew
Hayes walked and the Railsplitters plated a run. Tate Johnston
reached on another error in his at-bat as Wurth crossed home plate
with a run. Trey Schilling tied the game 4-4 when he scored on a
wild pitch.
Metamora scored in the bottom of the fourth inning to reclaim the
lead, 5-4 the score.
A single, a walk and an error by the Redbirds allowed Lincoln to go
in front 6-5 in the top of the fifth inning. Trey Schilling’s RBI
double put Lincoln up 7-5 in the inning. After another Redbird
error, the Railsplitters went up 8-5. A ground out by Wes Tedrick
plated the Railsplitters ninth run of the game before the inning
came to a close.
Jarrett Evers and Trey Schilling added RBI singles in the top of the
sixth inning for insurance and Lincoln was up 11-5.
Brenden Wurth’s RBI single in the top of the seventh inning set the
final score at 12-5.

Metamora managed 11 hits on the day but committed
seven errors in the field.
The Railsplitters offense had seven hits.
Trey Schilling and Michael Lucas each had two hits for Lincoln.
Brenden Wurth had four RBIs and three runs scored.
Tate Johnston started the game for Lincoln. He worked three innings,
allowing five runs on eight hits. He struck out one batter.
Colbie Glenn earned the win. He pitched one and two-thirds innings,
allowing zero runs on two hits. He struck out one batter.
Michael Lucas pitched the final two and one-third
innings, giving up a hit and striking out two batters.
In other games during the week, Lincoln suffered a 7-1 loss to
Morton on Tuesday and then dropped a doubleheader 2-1 and 3-0 to
Mount Zion on Saturday.
This week the Railsplitters will play Champaign Central, Beardstown,
Decatur MacArthur and Heyworth. All of these games are scheduled
away.
