Friday, April 28th was Arbor Day across the nation.
In honor of the day and it's special designation as a "Tree City
USA," the city of Lincoln hosted as tree planting ceremony at the
city's Municipal Services facility. This is the 22nd year the city
of Lincoln has been named as a Tree City by the National Arbor Day
Foundation.
This year, the city planted two trees, one on either side of the
flag pole that faces the entrance to the building. Those in
attendance for the ceremony included Street Superintendent and
Forestry Superintendent Walt Landers, Lincoln Alderwoman Kathy Horn,
City Clerk Peggy Bateman, Fire Chief Bob Dunovsky, the
administrative staff at the Municipal Services building, and
employees of the Lincoln Street Department.
With everyone assembled, Landers read a statement about the
observance of Arbor Day and the Tree City designation. "We are here
today to dedicate these trees and celebrate Arbor Day, which is
today Friday April 28, 2023, and demonstrate the City of Lincoln's
commitment to the Tree City USA program for
22 years.
"The Lincoln Street Department staff oversees forestry operations in
the City of Lincoln and participates in the Tree City USA Program
because it provides direction, assistance, and recognition for our
community. It also helps us manage a healthy, sustainable forestry
program so we can all enjoy the benefits a healthy urban forest
provides our community and a beautiful landscape for the residents
we serve."

to the city of Lincoln. In her honor, she was asked to turn the
first shovel of soil on the first tree planted. Thus making the tree
planting her last official act on behalf of the city.
A group photo was also taken to commemorate the day.
