Shirley Jean Kaufman was born in Danvers, on July
25, 1937, the daughter of Clarence and Dora Rettke
Kaufman. She was united in marriage to Charles “Bud”
Sampson on January 26, 1962. He preceded Shirley in
death on May 14, 2016.
Shirley is survived by two daughters: Shawn Bristow
and Michelle (Roger) Rich, two grandsons: Trevor
Bristow and Bryson (Mikayla McFeeters) Bristow; one
great-granddaughter: Kirby Jean Bristow; two
brothers: Donald (Connie) Kaufman and Richard
(Susan) Kaufman; and two sisters: Dolores Giuffria
and Myra Meredith.
She was preceded in death by her parents and
husband. |
Shirley was a 1955 graduate of
Danvers High School and then worked at General
Electric, where she met her husband. After she
raised her children, Shirley returned to working
outside the home and then retired from IAA. She was
an avid Cardinals fan, and she loved to be outside
and tending to and mowing her lawn. She was famous
for her deviled eggs and beautifully decorated sugar
cookies. Shirley was proud of her grandsons, and
especially her great-granddaughter Kirby Jean, who
shares her middle name. She was a member of West
Twin Grove Church of Danvers.
Memorials may be made to Waynesville Fire Department
or Waynesville United Methodist Church.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley
Funeral Home of Atlanta.
