The answer to the highly anticipated question, “Where will Kloe Froebe take her basketball talent beyond Lincoln Community High School?” is Colorado State University.

While Lincoln can always claim Froebe as their own, having watched her literally grow up on the court along with several life-long teammates in the 217, after she finishes her career as a record-breaking Lady Railer basketball legend, she will head out West to the town of Fort Collins, home of the Colorado State University Rams.

Froebe made the announcement via social media on April 30th, the day after her junior prom.

While making a repeat visit to the northern Colorado city over spring break, Froebe liked the small town feel of Fort Collins. It reminded her of the Lincoln community. That atmosphere, along with the confidence the Colorado State University women's basketball program has in her, played a huge part in her decision.

“I really fell in love with the campus and the beautiful scenery that Colorado has,” said Froebe. “The chance to play for amazing coaches who believed in me even through injuries and to play with girls that I can really see myself fitting in with, also led me to choose Colorado State University. Overall, it really just felt like a place I could call home and I think that’s what matters most when thinking about where I’m going to be spending the next four years.”

The Rams finished the 2022-23 season with a 20-12 record and a trip to the NCAA tournament. Froebe looks to help the team improve and hopefully make a postseason appearance again.

“My expectations for when I get to Fort Collins are to step in and make an impact my freshman year and throughout the four years I spend there,” said Froebe. “I hope to help get Colorado State to the NCAA tournament again.”

In the meantime, fans of Lady Railer basketball are fortunate that they get to experience one more year of Froebe on the court here in Lincoln, Illinois. The 2023-24 Lady Railer basketball team will feature a talented group of senior student-athletes who will look to guide the team back to the IHSA State Tournament in Normal, Illinois.

“As I enter my senior year, the focus is on ensuring a trip back to CEFCU Arena,” said Froebe. “My teammates and I know it will be even harder next season so we have been and are going to continue working very hard in the offseason. Going into our last season we are focused on making sure we leave it all on the court.”

There is only one way to top last season’s 36-1 record that featured that one loss coming in the Class 3A State Championship game versus Nazareth Academy of LaGrange Park and that’s win it all!

Undoubtedly, these Lady Railers will work hard towards that goal and with a leader like Froebe on the court, it’ll be fun to watch.

To recap Froebe’s junior season on the court at Lincoln Community High School, the runner-up to both the Illinois Girls Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year and Ms. Basketball of Illinois, averaged 28.2 points per game, 7.8 rebounds per game, 5.0 assists per game and 5.6 steals per game. In her junior season she scored 1,045 points. Her career total is currently 2,199 points scored. The LCHS girls scoring record is 2,376 points and it is held by Steph Reichle. Undoubtedly, Froebe would have more points already if not for a Covid-shortened season her freshman year and an injury during her sophomore season that caused her to miss several games.

Froebe also set the new scoring record at the IHSA Girls State Tournament this year for points scored in a game when she dropped 45 points on Deerfield in the semifinals.

After the 2022-23 school basketball season ended for Froebe, various media outlets, including television and print, chose her as their area player of the year. In addition, she earned several other state-wide honors.

Froebe was named to the AP Class 3A First Team, earning the most points with 115.

Froebe was also named to the 2023 IBCA Girls All-State First Team. She was one of three juniors to make the team, along with seven seniors.

She is ranked no. 1 on Prep Girls Hoops as the best player in the state of Illinois for the Class of 2024.

She is currently playing in the AAU season with the Illinois Elite basketball team and undeniably that team will have their eye on a national championship in late July.

While all the basketball accolades she has received indicate she is an elite player on the court, at the end of the day she is an even better human being off the court.

Colorado State University is getting a good one in Froebe.

Congratulations, Kloe!

We are so proud of you!
