Obituary
Richard “Dick” E. Logan, 78, of
O’Fallon, MO, formerly of Lincoln, IL, passed away
peacefully in his home, surrounded by family and
love, on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, due to
complications from COVID. He was resilient and had a
strong will to live. After surviving devastating
illnesses over the past 13 years, and losing his
ability to move and communicate, he is now walking
hand in hand with loved ones waiting for his arrival
and has regained the use of his voice in Heaven to
sing praises for a life well lived.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, at
Holy Family Catholic Church from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00
p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday,
May 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic
Church in Lincoln. Rev. Joseph Dondanville will
officiate.
Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lincoln at
a later date.
Richard Eugene Logan was born November 6, 1945, in
Lincoln, the son of Leo and Loretta O’Neill Logan.
He is survived by four of his children, whom he
loved deeply, including one son, Darren Logan
(Boulder, UT); and three daughters, Diana (Derek)
Schemansky (O’Fallon, MO), Sara Logan (Denver, CO),
and Elizabeth Logan (Los Angeles, CA). He also loved
his four grandchildren; Mariah, Olivia, Megan, and
Nicholas Schemansky; and one great-granddaughter,
Sophia Schemansky. He is also survived by two
sisters, Jane Perry and Ruth (Ed) Hurley; one
brother, Leo (Roberta) Logan; one stepsister,
Dorothy Starling; his former wife Marsha Logan;
and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dick was preceded in death by his beloved son
Daniel, sister Loretta Yeates, stepbrother Robert
“Bob” Smith, his parents, and stepmother Josephine
“Jody” Smith Logan.

Dick graduated from Lincoln Community
High School in 1963. He joined the United States
Navy, serving as a petty officer aboard the USS
Litchfield County, a landing ship instrumental in
transporting supplies to ground forces in Vietnam.
He also served as the ship’s disbursing clerk, was
appointed as the Catholic Lay Leader of his command
and received a Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon.
Upon returning to Lincoln, Dick found
great joy in providing service to his community and
took pride in helping the city and county flourish.
He owned and operated Dick Logan’s Auto Care, for
nearly 40 years, and served on the Logan County
Board from 1994 - 2008, including as Chairman from
2006–2008.
Dick was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church,
serving as cantor and singing in the choir for many
years. He was also a 4th Degree Knight with the
Lincoln Knights of Columbus, Council #1250, and a
member of the American Legion and VFW.
In addition to the passions he held for his family,
business, leading local politics, and singing, Dick
loved bowling. He was a member of the Logan Lanes
bowling league and sponsored numerous teams over
several decades. He was also an avid St. Louis
Cardinals fan and enjoyed watching the games with
his son-in-law and primary caregiver, Derek
Schemansky, during the time he lived with his
daughter Diana’s family.
Dick missed Lincoln greatly and felt a fondness for
and loyalty to everyone he knew. While he will be
dearly missed, he is now at peace with our Lord and
rejoined with all his loved ones who have gone
before him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his
family.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Peasley
Funeral Home of Lincoln.
