Five outstanding athletes are headed to the
IHSA Class 2A Girls State Track and Field Championships at
Eastern Illinois University in Charleston this weekend.
Becca Heitzig and Mallory Short are making return visits to
State and they are joined by some remarkable freshmen in Ceana
Adams, Kyli Lund and Grace Schneider.
Becca Heitzig is the reigning state champion and state record
holder in the 800m and she will defend her title in Charleston.
At Sectionals, Heitzig finished in second place with a time of
2:08.04. This is a new PR for her. Heitzig also qualified for
State in the 1600m with a time of 5:03.74.
Mallory Short will run the 400m. Short qualified for State with
a time of 1:00.09. That is her PR.
Ceana Adams, Kyli Lund, Mallory Short and Becca Heitzig will run
the 4x400m relay with Grace Schneider as the alternate. At
Sectionals, Adams, Lund, Short and Heitzig finished in first
place with a time of 4:03.75.
The Prelims will take place today and the finals will take place
on Saturday.
