The Lady Railers softball team reached 20 season wins last
week and senior flame thrower Cara Farnam has been in the circle for
every one of them. Lincoln’s bats were also sizzling during the two
games the Lady Railers played during the week.

Lincoln started the week by crushing Decatur MacArthur 13-0 as Cara
Farnam tossed a one-hit shutout.
The Lady Railers scored seven runs in the top of the third inning,
with Faith Eckhardt delivering the big hit of the inning. Eckhardt
crushed a double to center that drove in two runs. Taryn
Stoltzenburg added an RBI single in the inning. The Lady Railers
also scored on two errors and a fielder’s choice to make the score
7-0.
The top of the sixth inning was a hit parade with Adi Rumler, Malena
Kirgan, Kelsey Marten and Chloe Johnston each slugging RBI singles.
Stoltzenburg’s hit scored two runners to complete the scoring and
Lincoln was on top 13-0.
Lincoln won the game by the ten-run rule in six innings.
Cara Farnam tossed the complete game, allowing just one hit and zero
runs. Farnam struck out 13 batters and walked four.
The Lady Railers had 16 hits versus the Generals.
Malena Kirgan was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Adi Rumler was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Alex Eads, Taryn Stoltzenburg and Kelsey Marten had two hits apiece
for Lincoln.
Cara Farnam, Faith Eckhardt and Chloe Johnston had one hit apiece
for the Lady Railers.

The Lady Railers played their last home game of the season on
Thursday and defeated the Rantoul Eagles 8-2 with Cara Farnam
earning her 20th win on the season as the team improved to 20-14
overall.
Farnam went the distance for Lincoln, tossing seven innings and
allowing two runs on four hits. She struck out 12 batters and walked
none. Her strikeout count for the season is now 255 and equals that
of the current record holder, Desirae Lercher. In addition, Farnam
has tied Lercher for wins in a season with 20.

The Lady Railers scored four runs in the bottom of
the first inning versus Rantoul. After a leadoff walk to Taryn
Stoltzenburg, Farnam hit a triple to right field, bringing home the
speedy Stoltzenburg with the first run of the game. Adi Rumler’s
sacrifice fly scored Farnam with run no. 2. Morgan Sheley’s base hit
drove in another run for Lincoln and Kelsey Marten’s final single of
the inning drove in the fourth run.
Adi Rumler made the score 5-0 with her RBI single
in the bottom of the second inning.
In the bottom of the fifth inning Faith Eckhardt had an RBI triple
and Taryn Stoltzenburg had an RBI single to increase the lead to
7-0.
The Eagles scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Alex Eads added an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Farnam quickly struck out the side in the top of the seventh inning,
bringing her season total to 255. Lincoln’s win no. 20 was in the
books with the final score of 8-2.
The Lady Railers had 10 hits versus Rantoul.
Adi Rumler was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Cara Farnam was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Alex Eads was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Taryn Stoltzenburg, Morgan Sheley, Kelsey Marten and Faith Eckhardt
had one hit apiece for the Lady Railers.
In addition to Farnam chasing pitching records, her and Taryn
Stoltzenburg have been breaking records on the base paths. Each of
the girls has broken the old record of 29 stolen bases in a season
set by Amanda Podbelsek. Farnam currently has 34 stolen bases while
Stoltzenburg shattered the record this season and leads the team
with 39 stolen bases.
The Lady Railers will open regional play on Tuesday night in
Washington. They are scheduled to play Peoria Notre Dame at 7:00
p.m. under the lights.
