Letters to the Editor

Lincoln Daily News welcomes letters of appreciation, information and opinion on matters pertaining to the community.

Controversial issues:
As a community we need to be able to talk openly about matters that affect the quality of our lives. The most effective and least offensive manner to get your point across is to stick to the issue and refrain from commenting on another person's opinion. Letters that deviate from focusing on the issue may be rejected or edited and marked as such.

How about a little more civility?

To the editor:

What if all of us in Logan County were to resolve to show civility and serenity when discussing controversial matters? What if we were to resolve to avoid disparaging others' character? This suggestion is made in the wake of recent disturbing reports of fractious public meetings.

What if each elected body in Logan County were to resolve henceforth to serve as a living example of civility? We could all pledge to follow the advice of Lincoln native Reinhold Niebuhr who taught us that the key to civility is to change the things that ought to be changed while agreeing to live calmly with things that cannot be changed.
