Obituary

William Roland Scheidegger, 92 of Ormond Beach, FL, formerly of Lincoln, passed away on Friday, May 19th, 2023, at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach Florida.

He was born on March 6, 1931, to Frederick Philip and Mary Elizabeth (Roberts) Scheidegger in Tamaqua, PA. His mother died when he was very young, and he moved next door to live with his beloved Aunt Lucy. Bill had an interesting childhood in the mountains of Pennsylvania. He loved to roam around the hills with his friends and catch rattlesnakes with his bare hands. As told to his daughters, running a mile to school and then back home for lunch was a daily occurrence. All that conditioning led him to hold the high school record in the mile for many years. He was an avid football player and at one point hoped to coach. Life had other plans, however. He enlisted in the Army and proudly served our country in the Korean war stationed on Guam. After his service he started a career in finance and met his wife Judy in Peoria. They were married on September 2, 1961. Their union produced three daughters: Melanie Matson, Morgan Burns and Michelle (John) Evers.

Bill was very proud of his family and was very, very protective of his girls. (Definitely not allowing them to catch rattlesnakes with their bare hands.) When his grandchildren came along, he loved following their school activities, sporting events, and admonishing them to close the door because they were letting out the cold/hot air. Bill loved to fish and golf. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion serving as Finance Officer for many years and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He and Judy were active members of the Lincoln Bootkickers line dancing club.

Bill worked his entire life, retiring from Chrysler Fiat after 38 years, then started the finance department at Peoria Siding and retired there after 10 years. He and Judy decided to relocate to Ormond Beach, Florida where he worked at the Airline Academy as a recruiter for several years before his final job as a greeter at Daytona Dodge. There he loved welcoming customers with a fresh cookie and a smile.

He is survived by his wife, daughters, grandchildren: Dustin (Kari) Matson, Brandon (Amanda) Matson, Tara (Brandon McClellan), Coleman (Jamie Cargas) Burns, Jarrett and Lilly Evers. His great grandchildren: Lauren Thompson, Hayley (Quintin) Beightel (sons Drew and Landen), Emmary (Ethan Bryson) Matson, Max McClellan, Kaden and Dylan Matson, Nathan Matson, and Levi Burns. Bill was a member of Holy Family Church in Lincoln and St. Brendan in Ormond Beach, FL.

There will be a private family service at a later date.

Memorials are requested to be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital which he supported.

He was a great man and will be very much missed. He was the best dad ever.
