Railsplitters fall to Mahomet-Seymour in regional championship
Lincoln ends season with a 21-13-2 record

The Railsplitters lost a tough game on Saturday to the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs, 4-1 the final score in the Class 3A Regional Championship. To get to the championship game, Lincoln defeated Champaign Centennial 7-2 on Thursday. The Railsplitters began the week on the diamond by falling to East Peoria 9-6 to end the regular season.

The Railsplitters regular season came to a close last Monday as the East Peoria Raiders defeated Lincoln 9-6 at Mike Curry Field.

Lincoln lost an early 5-0 lead as the Raiders scored in the final three innings to take the victory.

Colbie Glenn led off the game for Lincoln with a double to left and then the no. 2 hitter, Michael Lucas, smacked the first pitch to left field for a single and Glenn hustled home with the first run of the game.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Railsplitters put four more runs on the scoreboard. Glenn slugged a two-run double to center this time around in the lineup and Lucas duplicated his first at-bat by hitting another run-scoring single. Jarrett Evers would single home the final run in the inning, giving the Railsplitters a 5-0 lead.

The Raiders scored twice in the top of the fifth inning.

Drew Hayes took an 0-2 count and crushed it for a double in the bottom of the fifth inning, allowing Evers to score for the Railsplitters. Lincoln was still on top 6-2.

By the time the Raiders finished batting in the top of the sixth inning, they held an 8-6 lead over Lincoln.

East Peoria added one more run in the top of the seventh inning and after shutting down the Lincoln offense in the bottom of the inning, the 9-6 win was in the books.

Wyatt Mammen took the loss for Lincoln. Mammen gave up six hits and five runs, three of which were earned runs. He struck out one batter and walked one.

Carson Fuiten started the game for Lincoln. Fuiten worked four and one-third innings, allowing three hits and two runs. He struck out two batters.

Colbie Glenn pitched the final one and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and two runs. He walked two batters.

Both Glenn and Lucas led the Railsplitters offense by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs each. Glenn also scored two runs.

Jarrett Evers was also 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Jaden Leadley, Brenden Wurth, Trey Schilling, Drew Hayes and Wes Tedrick also had hits for Lincoln.

Colbie Glenn took charge in the first inning of the game on Thursday versus the Centennial Chargers. Glenn tattooed the ball on an 0-2 count, sending it over the left field fence, setting the tone and giving the Railsplitters a 1-0 lead in the opening game of regionals. Brenden Wurth also drove in a run with a double in the first. Trey Schilling added a two-run single in his at-bat and it was a regular hit parade on display early in the postseason. Schilling would come around to score on a ground ball hit by Wes Tedrick and Lincoln was on top 5-0.

The Chargers plated a run in the top of the third inning.

The Railsplitters were quick to get that run back in the bottom half of the third inning as Jarrett Evers scored on a wild pitch. Evers led off the inning with a single.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Chargers scored a run but still trailed 6-2.

Three walks and a single would help the Railsplitters score a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. After an easy 1-2-3 top of the seventh inning, Lincoln advances with a 7-2 win over Champaign Centennial.

Carson Fuiten picked up the win, his sixth of the season for the Railsplitters. Fuiten worked six innings, allowing nine hits and two runs. He struck out three batters and walked two. Fuiten threw 90 pitches, 57 were strikes.

Colbie Glenn earned the save, his sixth of the season. Glenn pitched the final inning and struck out one batter. He did not allow a run or a hit in his outing.

Trey Schilling led Lincoln’s offense against the Chargers. Schilling was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Colbie Glenn was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Michael Lucas, Brenden Wurth, Jarrett Evers and Drew Hayes also had hits for Lincoln.

The Class 3A Regional Championship featured a pitcher’s battle between Mahomet-Seymour’s Blake Wolters and Lincoln’s Wyatt Mammen. With lots of MLB scouts in attendance, the huge crowd was treated to a show, with both pitchers throwing heat.

The difference in this game would be the three-run home run by the Bulldogs’ Carter Johnson in the bottom of the third inning, as Mahomet-Seymour would go on to win 4-1.

Lincoln’s lone run was scored in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI double by Trey Schilling.

Wyatt Mammen suffered the loss for Lincoln. The junior worked five and one-third innings, allowing five hits and four runs. He walked four batters and struck out seven. Mammen threw 85 pitches, 50 for strikes, and faced 26 batters.

Colbie Glenn pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief. He threw two pitches and was able to get out of the inning on a double play ball.

Blake Wolters tossed a complete game for the Bulldogs and he earned the win. The highly sought after senior allowed four hits and one run. He walked one batter and struck out 16. Wolters threw 112 pitches, 73 for strikes, and faced 28 batters.

Trey Schilling led Lincoln’s offense by going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

Brenden Wurth and Drew Hayes also had hits off Wolters.

Wolters struck out every Railsplitter in the lineup at least once.

The Railsplitters end the 2023 season with a 21-13-2 record.

Lincoln will host the Class 3A Sectional this week for baseball.
