Atlanta Tourism Director Scott McCoy to speak at Logan County Genealogical & Historical Society Annual Dinner

[November 06, 2023]    The giant advertising icons which have caught the eye of travelers on Route 66 for decades will be featured by speaker Scott McCoy during the annual dinner meeting of the Logan County Genealogical & Historical Society at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at Daphne's Restaurant in Lincoln.

Scott McCoy is the Tourism Director for Atlanta, Illinois as of the Spring, 2023.

Scott is the former mayor of Pontiac, Illinois. During his term, he was instrumental in the creation and development of tourism in Pontiac. He is also a small business owner and he created the most used Route 66 app for travelers. With nearly 20 years experience, he is a consultant and speaker on Route 66 and works with entities all along Route 66 in the development of new attractions and marketing.

Scott will be speaking on the new American Giants Museum in Atlanta, the roadside giants, Route 66, and the Route 66 Tourism Industry.

Among icons produced by the International Fiberglass Company, many of which are or will be included in the Museum display, are the Muffler Men, Paul Bunyan, the Texaco Big Friends, a seven foot tall Esso Tiger, the 19 foot tall Snerd, also known as the Half-Witt Giant;

An eleven foot Gas Station Waving Guy, a three foot by one and a half foot A &W Root Beer Mama Burger, and a Uniroyal Tire Gal Leg and Foot. A giant Texaco sign stands outside the Museum.

McCoy, who has nearly 20 years experience, is a consultant and speaker on Route 66 and works with entities along Route 66 in the development of new attractions and marketing.
