NHL roundup: Connor Bedard's 4 points pace Blackhawks

 

[November 10, 2023]  Chicago's Connor Bedard authored his first sensational performance after being selected No. 1 overall in June, producing four points as the Blackhawks stormed to a 5-3 win over the host Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.

In his first career multi-point game, Bedard produced two goals and two assists in the first 22:12. He became the youngest player in Blackhawks history to have a multi-goal game and at least three points. At 18 years and 115 days old, the top-line center is the third-youngest player in NHL history with a four-point game.

Former Lightning players Tyler Johnson and Corey Perry scored goals against their old club, and Chicago rookie defenseman Kevin Korchinski tallied for the first time in his NHL career. Nick Foligno had three assists for the Blackhawks while Philipp Kurashev managed two. Chicago goaltender Petr Mrazek stopped 30 shots.

Anthony Cirelli had a goal and an assist for the Lightning, and Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos also scored. Mikhail Sergachev dished out his 200th NHL assist. Jonas Johansson stopped 24 of 29 shots as the Lightning lost for the first time in regulation at home (4-1-2).

Penguins 4, Kings 3 (OT)

Bryan Rust scored the game-winner with 1:15 left in overtime after he had a goal disallowed 19 seconds earlier, giving visiting Pittsburgh a win against Los Angeles.

Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist, Lars Eller and Jake Guentzel also scored and Magnus Hellberg made 33 saves in his first start of the season for the Penguins, who have won a season-high three in row. Pittsburgh's Erik Karlsson recorded two assists.

Carl Grundstrom, Adrian Kempe and Kevin Fiala scored and Pheonix Copley made 16 saves for the Kings, who had their four-game winning streak end but extended their point streak to eight in a row (6-0-2).

Kraken 4, Avalanche 3

Oliver Bjorkstrand scored his second goal of the night with 31.6 seconds remaining, lifting Seattle over Colorado in Denver.

Jaden Schwartz had a goal and an assist and Matt Beniers also scored for Seattle. Adam Larsson and Vince Dunn had two assists each, and Philipp Grubauer turned away 23 shots for the win.

Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and two assists, Valeri Nichushkin and Bowen Byram had goals and Ivan Prosvetov made 20 saves for Colorado. Artturi Lehkonen was taken to a local hospital after colliding with the Kraken's Jamie Oleksiak and going headfirst into the boards in the second period.

Rangers 4, Wild 1

Alexis Lafreniere scored the tiebreaking goal 1:41 into the third period and collected two assists as New York beat visiting Minnesota to earn a point for a ninth straight game.

Vincent Trocheck had a goal and two assists as the Rangers improved to 8-0-1 in the past nine games. Artemi Panarin had an assist on Lafreniere's goal and scored an empty-net goal, giving him at least one point in all 13 games New York has played this season -- one short of Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert for the longest streak in team history to open a season (1972-73).

Blake Wheeler added his first goal since signing with the Rangers when he scored on New York's first power play in the third.

Bruins 5, Islanders 2

Charlie Coyle registered his first career hat trick and added an assist as Boston beat visiting New York.

David Pastrnak had a goal and two assists, Trent Frederic added a goal and an assist and James van Riemdsyk and Brad Marchand each had two helpers for Boston, which has won three of four November games and is 6-0-1 on home ice. Linus Ullmark made 27 saves.

Brock Nelson and Simon Holmstrom each lit the lamp for the Islanders, who are 0-2-1 in their last three games. Ilya Sorokin stopped 30 shots.

Canadiens 3, Red Wings 2 (OT)

Cole Caufield scored with 44 seconds remaining in overtime to give Montreal a win at Detroit.

Mike Matheson and Nick Suzuki, who each scored a goal, assisted on the winner. Matheson had two assists, giving him a point on every goal. Cayden Primeau stopped 27 shots as the Canadiens snapped a four-game losing streak (0-3-1).

Christian Fischer scored his first goal of the season for the Red Wings. J.T. Compher had the other goal and James Reimer made 23 saves. Despite picking up a point, Detroit has lost six of the past eight games (2-4-2).

Canucks 5, Senators 2

Elias Pettersson tallied a goal and two assists and Ilya Mikheyev scored twice as visiting Vancouver beat Ottawa for its fifth straight victory.

Casey DeSmith made 28 saves for the Canucks, who prevailed despite being held to 16 shots on goal. Vancouver's J.T. Miller added a goal and an assist, and Brock Boeser also scored. Andrei Kuzmenko and Phillip Di Giuseppe each contributed two assists.

Drake Batherson and Artem Zub scored for the Senators, who have dropped six of eight overall and five straight at home. Anton Forsberg wound up with 11 saves.

Jets 6, Predators 3

Kyle Connor scored a hat trick and Mark Scheifele collected four assists as Winnipeg beat visiting Nashville for its third straight win.

Mason Appleton, Cole Perfetti and Brenden Dillon were the other scorers for the Jets, while Dylan DeMelo and Alex Iafallo each had a pair of assists. Laurent Brossoit made 20 saves.

Filip Forsberg scored twice for the Predators, and Philip Tomasino also tallied. Tyson Barrie had two assists, while Juuse Saros made 31 saves.

Blues 2, Coyotes 1

Oskar Sundqvist and Robert Thomas scored as St. Louis edged visiting Arizona.

Joel Hofer made 19 saves for the Blues, who finished 3-1-0 on their four-game homestand. St. Louis went 0-for-7 on the power play but outshot the Coyotes 33-20.

Lawson Crouse scored and Karel Vejmelka made 31 saves for the Coyotes, who have alternated losses and wins over the past seven games.

Stars 5, Blue Jackets 2

Matt Duchene had a goal and two assists to help visiting Dallas rally past Columbus.

Tyler Seguin had a goal and an assist and Jake Oettinger made 27 saves for the Stars, who had lost two straight for the first time this season and were opening a three-game road trip. Mason Marchment, Craig Smith and Jason Robertson also tallied for Dallas, and Nils Lundkvist had two assists.

Boone Jenner scored his seventh goal of the season for the Blue Jackets, who blew a 2-0 lead to lose for the seventh time in the past eight games (1-4-3). Kirill Marchenko also scored, and Spencer Martin made 26 saves.

Sharks 3, Oilers 2

Mackenzie Blackwood made 39 saves as San Jose beat Edmonton for its second consecutive win.

Tomas Hertl and Fabian Zetterlund each had a goal and an assist and Filip Zadina also scored for the Sharks, who had snapped their NHL record-tying 11-game winless streak (0-10-1) to start a season with a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday.

Darnell Nurse and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each scored goals for the Oilers, who lost their fourth straight game and eighth in their past nine games (1-7-1). Stuart Skinner finished with 15 saves.
