The
Illinois Association of County Engineers (IACE) and the Illinois
Department of Transportation (IDOT) have announced the graduation of
35 engineers and assistants from the Executive Leadership
Development Series (ELDS). Sam McShane recently completed this
intensive leadership program which required a 22-month commitment to
refining management and administrative skills. The graduation
ceremony was held at IACE’s annual Fall conference in Moline.
“The ELDS program consisted of nine training modules, ranging from
soft skills to technical courses to team-building events, but the
most beneficial part of the ELDS program is the networking,” said
IDOT’s Technology Transfer Program Manager Barry Kent. “The
face-to-face interaction over the nearly two-year ELDS program
builds familiarity among the 35 graduates to more effectively
interact with each other on County issues in the future.”
Participants attended numerous online and face-to-face presentations
and seminars that enabled them to share experiences, ideas, and
information. Course topics included work zone safety training, legal
issues, leadership and team-building skills, labor relations, media,
social-media and presentation skills, workplace diversity and County
Board communication.

The program provided valuable
networking opportunities for members, as well as access to
additional support and resources from IDOT and its Illinois
Technology Transfer Center staff.

worked at the Highway Department since 2017. He is a registered
Professional Engineer and lives in Lincoln with his wife and
family.
