The Illini had some low energy to start but picked up the intensity in the 2nd half on their way to an 87-64 victory over Valparaiso U. The Illini welcomed back their head coach former Illinois super star, Roger Powell Jr. with a wonderful standing ovation!
And if anyone knows the inspirational halftime message tonight-we’d love to hear it!

3 Stars

#1 Terrance Shannon, Jr.

When your best players step-up isn’t that’s what’s supposed to happen? TSJ had 22 points with 3 3-pointers, 7 rebounds, and 5 of 6 from the ft line. His defense helped shutdown the Beacons and limited them to only 19 2nd half points.

#2 Luke Goode

I know I sound like Luke’s manager, promoter, and agent but good is good and this Goode has been so “bad” lately-he’s been really good. My observation-he’s finally healthy-strength back in his legs & lift in his shots. A 2nd game in a row where he nailed 4 3-pointers and finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Leaders lead!

[to top of second column]

#3 Dain Dainja

Great to see Dain produce when he is needed and counted on. Dain turned in a very efficient night of going 8 for 10 from the field for 16 points and 7 rebounds, And a decent night in the paint on defense.

Honorable Mention

Niccolo Moretti

Nico looked good handling the rock and chipped in 6 points and 2 assists.

Justin Harmon

Nice outing for Harmon on the night-7 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Marcus Domask

Marcus knows where to go and what to do. He had 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Illinois is now 3-1 on the young season and will host Southern University Sunday night at 7pm.
