[November 15, 2023]  LINCOLN - Howard A. Kirk, 83, of Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, in the outstanding care of Imboden Creek Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center in Decatur.

Obituary

Howard A. Kirk, 83, of Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, in the outstanding care of Imboden Creek Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center in Decatur.

Howard was born in Lincoln, on March 19, 1940, the son of Henry A. Kirk and Evelyn Young Kirk Knowles. Howard graduated from Lincoln Community High School in 1958. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in the 82nd Airborne from 1959-1963. Howard was honorably discharged from his service at the Berlin Wall.

He married Barbara A. Krotz on September 7, 1976, in Lincoln. Barbara survives. Howard was previously married to the late Christine Kirk (div) 1976.

Howard is the father to Teresa (Dorian) Williams of Bryan TX, David (Sebastian) Kirk of Wheaton, Susan (Ralph) Whitsitt of Bloomington, Stephen Klemm of Lincoln, and Lisa (Chris) Bergschneider of Decatur. Howard has nine grandchildren (James, Elizabeth, Michael, Charles, Kirk, Benjamin, Brandon, Leslie, and Levi) and two great-grandchildren (Eliza and James). Howard also has several nieces and nephews.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents, siblings John Kirk, Mary Catherine Turner, Evelyn Kirk Doyle, Franklin Kirk, Joan Lewis and James Kirk, and his grandson Michael J. Kirk.

Funeral Director

Howard was a career Union Carpenter with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for over 35 years. He retired and enjoyed several years watching his children succeed, a trip to Europe with his daughter Teresa, and spending time with his grandchildren. Howard was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Cubs fan. Until recently, he enjoyed daily walks in Scully Park in Lincoln.

Funeral Services will be Graveside at St. Mary’s Cemetery in rural Lincoln on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Military Rites accorded by Lincoln American Legion Post #263.

Memorials may be made in Howard’s memory to Lincoln American Legion Post #263.
