All
brands and sizes of diapers/wipes are welcome, larger sizes (size
4-6) are especially welcome. This is Short’s seventh year hosting
the diaper drive and each year she hopes to collect more than the
year before. Over the last three years, this diaper drive has
collected and donated almost 22,000 units including diapers and
wipes to CAPCIL. The 2022 event holds the record with over 7,373
units collected.
The Early Head Start Center-based programs use thousands of diapers
each year. On average, an infant uses 10 diapers per day! According
to the Illinois Department of Human Services, "The USDA does not
currently have a waiver for states to allow customers to purchase
diapers with SNAP/WIC benefits.” Unfortunately, this is a
significant burden on our families, and we do whatever we can to
help- such as a diaper drive. Therefore, our grant money can be used
to help our classrooms and families in other ways such as
educational materials, connecting with other resources, and training
for our staff to better serve our families.” Said Head Start
Director, Kristen Conklen.
