NHL roundup: Connor McDavid, Oilers streak past Knights

 

[November 29, 2023]  Connor McDavid continued his hot streak with a goal and two assists and also scored in a shootout as the host Edmonton Oilers won their third straight game, beating the Vegas Golden Knights 5-4 on Tuesday.

McDavid, who led the league with 153 points last season and had his ninth career five-point game in an 8-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Sunday, has logged 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) during the three-game winning streak.

Sam Gagner, Evander Kane and Mattias Janmark also scored for Edmonton, which won despite blowing a two-goal lead in the third period. Stuart Skinner made 23 saves for the Oilers, who improved to 12-6-2 in the regular season against the Golden Knights.

Michael Amadio had a goal and an assist and Mark Stone, Ben Hutton and Keegan Kolesar also scored for Vegas, which fell to 3-5-3 in the past 11 games. Nicolas Roy added two assists and Logan Thompson finished with 30 saves while taking his fifth consecutive loss.

Canucks 3, Ducks 1

Brock Boeser scored two goals to help Vancouver hand visiting Anaheim its seventh consecutive loss.

Elias Pettersson also scored, J.T. Miller had two assists and Thatcher Demko made 30 saves for the Canucks, who improved to 8-1-1 at home this season.

Ryan Strome scored and John Gibson made 24 saves for the Ducks, who have been outscored 33-12 during their skid.

Blackhawks 4, Kraken 3

Tyler Johnson scored the go-ahead goal in the second period as Chicago defeated visiting Seattle.

Boris Katchouk, Jason Dickinson and MacKenzie Entwistle also scored for the Blackhawks, who had lost six of their previous seven games. Joey Anderson added two assists and goaltender Petr Mrazek made 33 saves.

Matty Beniers had a goal and an assist and Alex Wennberg and Tye Kartye also tallied for Seattle, which took its second consecutive defeat. Philipp Grubauer stopped 19 of 23 shots in the opener of the Kraken's four-game trip.

Coyotes 3, Lightning 1

Michael Carcone tallied twice, Travis Boyd scored for the first time this season and Arizona topped Tampa Bay in Tempe, Ariz.

In his third career multigoal outing, all this season, Carcone opened and closed the scoring for the Coyotes, who started their five-game homestand by moving to 6-5-2 in November. Alex Kerfoot had two assists for Arizona, which won its second straight game.

Following his 2-0 shutout of the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday, Coyotes goaltender Connor Ingram made 30 saves for another win. He also earned his second career assist -- both this campaign -- with a helper on Boyd's marker.

Predators 3, Penguins 2 (OT)

Filip Forsberg went coast-to-coast to score 14 seconds into overtime to beat visiting Pittsburgh and give Nashville its sixth straight win.

Michael McCarron scored twice and Forsberg also added an assist for the Predators. Juuse Saros made 29 saves.

Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust each scored his 10th goal of the season for the Penguins, who came back from a two-goal deficit to tie it in the third. They have lost five of seven (2-4-1). Tristan Jarry made 23 saves in the loss, getting beaten glove side on Forsberg's winner.

Wild 3, Blues 1

Joel Eriksson Ek and Frederick Gaudreau each scored a first-period goal and Minnesota snapped a seven-game losing streak in John Hynes' Wild coaching debut with a victory over St. Louis in Saint Paul, Minn.

A day after Dean Evason was relieved of his coaching duties, the Wild won for just the sixth time in 20 games this season.

With former New Jersey Devils and Nashville Predators boss Hynes behind the Minnesota bench, Eriksson Ek recorded his team-leading 11th goal by scoring in a third straight contest, Gaudreau notched his first point of 2022-23 and Matt Boldy added a third-period insurance tally to halt the team's 0-5-2 slide.

Stars 2, Jets 0

Joe Pavelski extended his hot streak by scoring the winning goal and goaltender Jake Oettinger made 27 saves for his first shutout of the season as Dallas won at Winnipeg.

Shortly after killing a penalty, Jason Robertson had a shot blocked but Roope Hintz grabbed the puck in the slot and sent a pass to the front that Pavelski quickly converted for his 10th goal of the season. Pavelski ran his point-scoring streak to seven games, in which he has produced five goals and three assists.

The Jets challenged for goaltender interference because Pavelski's stick clipped Connor Hellebuyck's mask just before the puck came to him, but it was ruled a proper goal.

Hurricanes 4, Flyers 1

Michael Bunting had a goal and an assist as Carolina beat host Philadelphia.

Brendan Lemieux, Seth Jarvis and Jesperi Kotkaniemi (empty net) also scored for Carolina. Sebastian Aho had two assists and Pyotr Kochetkov made 28 saves.

Travis Konecny scored for the Flyers, who have lost three of their past four games. Carter Hart made 32 saves.

Maple Leafs 2, Panthers 1 (SO)

Noah Gregor scored in regulation and netted the decisive goal in a six-round shootout as Toronto defeated visiting Florida.

Florida's Evan Rodrigues had what appeared to be the winning goal in the fifth round of the shootout, but it was disallowed because he double-hit the puck. On the Panthers' last attempt, Nick Cousins' wrist shot hit the goal post and bounced away.

Joseph Woll made 37 saves for the Maple Leafs in the opener of a three-game homestand. Kevin Stenlund scored in regulation for the Panthers. Florida goalie Anthony Stolarz stopped 31 shots.

Devils 5, Islanders 4

Curtis Lazar scored the go-ahead goal with 21.5 seconds remaining, lifting host New Jersey over New York in Newark, N.J.

New Jersey's Jack Hughes recorded a goal and two assists and Lazar joined Dawson Mercer and Michael McLeod with one of each. Captain Nico Hischier also scored a goal and Akira Schmid stopped all nine shots he faced in relief of Vitek Vanecek, who yielded four goals on 18 shots.

New York's Mathew Barzal collected a goal and two assists, Bo Horvat scored a power-play goal and Cal Clutterbuck and Jean-Gabriel Pageau also tallied. Defenseman Noah Dobson notched two assists and Ilya Sorokin turned aside 28 shots for the Islanders, who saw their six-game point streak (3-0-3) come to a halt.
