November 28th, 2023

To the members of the Lincoln Fire Department, Mayor Welch, Department Heads, City Council Members, and the citizens of Lincoln Illinois.

I write you today to announce my retirement from the Lincoln Fire Department and the City of Lincoln effective Friday, December 15th, 2023, at 1630 hours.

I started in the fire service during the summer of 1982 as a Cadet with the Clarendon Heights Fire Protection District. From there I worked as a member of the Westmont Fire Department until the early 1990s. I became a member of the Lincoln Fire Department in August of 1995 and have proudly served this community for the last 28 and a half years. As I embarked on my career all those years ago, I aspired to retire as a Chief one day. Here in Lincoln, I was fortunate to have advanced through all the ranks, experiencing and learning every aspect of each job. I have worked alongside some of the most courageous, compassionate, dedicated, unselfish human beings one would hope to ever meet. The City of Lincoln and all those who visit can rest assured that their community protected, safe, and in good hands.

God has blessed me with an amazing career. I take with me many cherished memories, unforgettable stories to tell, and many friendships to last a lifetime. Now its time to focus on my family, health, and future endeavors.

Thank you to the members of the Lincoln Fire Department, Mayor Welch, Department Heads, City Council Members and to the Citizens of Lincoln Illinois. It was a pleasure serving you all these years.

Chief Robert J. Dunovsky
