The
Lady Railers honored the family of Mikah Martin on Monday night in
their annual Kill Cancer match against Pleasant Plains. On the court
it was a two set victory for Lincoln, 25-20 and 25-18 the final
scores. Off the court the teams raised $5,000 for the Martin family
with the generous help of volleyball fans from all over the area.
Mikah Martin was diagnosed with B-Cell Lymphoma, specifically
Burkitts Leukemia, in February of this year. Mikah has spent a lot
of time at St. Louis Children’s Hospital this year as doctors have
worked to eradicate the cancer cells. Mikah is currently receiving
twice weekly immunotherapy in St. Louis while awaiting a tertiary
treatment plan. Mikah was unable to be in attendance Monday night
due to having a procedure that day. Mikah will turn six years old on
October 16.
Railer Nation offered their support for Mikah in a big way, as did
various sponsors and community members. The Lady Railers also
recognized all cancer warriors and survivors and presented them with
flowers.
The $5,000 raised was from the silent auction, which featured a wide
variety of gift baskets and baked goods, and the 50/50 raffle. The
winner of the 50/50 raffle was Bo Morris, who kindly donated his
$282 winnings back to the family.
