Paint the Paper Pink

We look at our Pink Shirt Picture today featuring the fine folks at Johnston True Value Hardware in Mt. Pulaski and a couple of things come to mind. First “True Value” and secondly “No one should fight alone.” While we localize these statements because you can find true value at the Johnston hardware store and we want to send a message to all our current warriors that they are not along, the community is behind them, there is another comparison we want to point out.

Today is the Pink Pumpkin Fundraiser Auction. The money brought in by that fundraiser will be given 100% to the American Cancer Society. Once they have the money what will they do with it?  It pleases us to tell you that less than four percent of that money will go to pay corporate salaries. Fifteen percent will go to fundraising efforts for the next year, and 81 percent will be expended on research and patient support services.

There are currently ten grants that have been awarded in Illinois for patient support services including grants to Memorial Health Systems in Springfield, Hospital Sisters of St. Francis in Springfield, University of Illinois Springfield, and OSF St. Francis in Peoria.

Within driving distance of Logan County, there are eight universities and hospitals that have been awarded research grants, including the University of Illinois – Chicago, Washington University – St. Louis, Purdue University in Indiana, and Johns Hopkins in Chicago.

Why is this important? Because it shows us that all our money is being spent to help warriors and find new treatments and cures. It shows us that putting your money into the ACS is “true value” and through the services offered by ACS, “No one fights alone.”

Please come out tonight and support the Pink Pumpkin Fundraiser Auction and the American Cancer Society. Collision Concepts, Lincoln, doors open at 5 p.m. with food and drink, silent auction, and live auction.
