Stags defeat Midwest Central
Celia Cross reaches 1,000 career assists

The Hartsburg-Emden Stags hosted Midwest Central on Monday night and Coach Jennifer Hayes’ teams each earned wins while Celia Cross reached an elite milestone early in her volleyball career. The sophomore setter recorded her 1,000th assist for the Stags. That is a very impressive stat for any setter and Coach Hayes credits the work ethic of Cross and the team around her that helped her reach this accomplishment.

“I’m so excited for Celia,” said Hayes. “She is such a hard worker during the season and in the offseason. She comes in for extra reps. She is the definition of a player that will do “whatever it takes.” That being said she is also blessed with a great team that helps her get those assists. It’s been a fun season so far.”

Coach Hayes has her team looking sharp this season and the 18-2 record is proof of that.

“I had every hope that this season would be great,” said Hayes. “It’s a great bunch of girls that have phenomenal chemistry. They make it fun to be in the gym each day. October is a fun month for us. Gotta “BELIEVE.”

Coach Hayes is a huge fan of the hit show, “Ted Lasso” and she draws her inspiration for this volleyball season from that show, thus the Stags motto this season is “BELIEVE.”

And you better believe the Stags won on the night Cross recorded her 1,000th assist. The Varsity team won quickly, 25-7 and 25-9.

Celia Cross had 27 assists versus Midwest Central.

Alayna Briggs led the Stags with 12 kills.

The Stags JV team won 25-14 and 25-12.
