Bringing the attention back to the volleyball game, set one was a
close battle from the start for Mount Pulaski while the victory in
set two came a bit easier.
Set one
Alyson Murphy had the first kill of the set, a nice shot down the
line that gave Mount Pulaski a 3-2 lead. Murphy’s tip kept the Lady
Toppers on top 5-4. A tip by Ella Bobell tied the game 6-6. After an
ace by Scout Tschantz, Mount Pulaski was back on top 8-7.
Kamrie Charron’s kill that ricocheted off the Midwest Central block
and out of bounds stretched the lead to 9-7.
Charron recorded another kill to keep Mount Pulaski in the lead,
10-8 the score. Mount Pulaski was in the midst of a 5-0 run with
Grace Davis adding a tip and Elayna Marten serving up an ace for
points.
The Lady Toppers built their largest lead of the set with a 14-8
score.
Davis kept the Lady Raiders at a distance with her kill that hit the
corner and gave Mount Pulaski a 16-9 advantage.
The Lady Raiders then used a 5-0 run to make the score 16-14.
Davis added a huge kill at the right time to shift the momentum in
Mount Pulaski’s favor, 17-14 the score.
Bobell’s tip made the score 18-15.
The two teams still kept fans on the edge of their seats, with the
Lady Toppers holding a slight advantage. After a kill by Davis, the
Lady Toppers were up 24-22 and looking to slam the door.
But the Lady Raiders were not having that. They came back to tie the
set 24-24. After a timeout, the Lady Toppers went ahead 25-24 on a
serving error by Midwest Central.
The Lady Raiders would tie the set again, 25-25.
After a huge kill by Murphy, the Lady Toppers maintained a 26-25
lead.
The last volley of the set was a long and exciting one, with Chloe
Stone sending the team to victory with a tip from the middle to end
set one by a final score of 27-25.
Set two
A couple kills early by Grace Davis put Mount Pulaski in a 4-1 lead.
Mount Pulaski managed to stay on top by a few points to start things
off and eventually the Lady Toppers went ahead 10-5 after a kill by
Elayna Marten.
The Lady Raiders inched closer, making the score 10-8 before a tip
by Davis and kill by Charron made the score 12-8.
Davis was swinging hard and another kill from the senior gave Mount
Pulaski a 14-10 lead. A tip from Murphy kept Mount Pulaski pretty
much on pace, leading 16-13. Another huge kill from Davis rested the
score at 19-16.
Several hitting errors by the Lady Raiders helped the Mount Pulaski
cause and with Marten serving another ace, the Lady Toppers were
able to command a 24-16 lead.
The Lady Raiders committed another hitting error to end the set in
Mount Pulaski’s favor. The final score in set two was 25-17.
Grace Davis led Mount Pulaski with 9 kills. Alyson Murphy added 4
kills in the win. Ella Bobell hustled to get the ball to these girls
and she had 20 assists. Kamrie Charron led the team with 8 digs.
Mount Pulaski has a 7-14 record on the season.
The MPHS student section deserves a special shoutout for bringing
the energy to the gym. The students were dressed in a particular
color, each representing their class, and they never stopped
cheering all night long.
One more final competitive stat worth mentioning is the final winner
of Homecoming Week. With the classes competing against each other
all week long in games, activities and participation in dress up
days, the winner is...well it was a tie between the SENIORS and the
FRESHMEN. That freshmen class is a large class this year, with over
50 students, and word on the street is this bunch has a bundle of
energy. You can bet they will be planning to stand on top next
homecoming all alone.
Congratulations to the volleyball team on a great MPHS Homecoming
win and kudos to the students and staff for making the week so much
fun. All the smiles in the gym were the only proof needed.
