WLB trio headed to State in Cross Country

Taylor Short, Pierce King and Henry Stoltzenburg each qualified for the 2023 IESA State Cross Country meet and they will represent the West Lincoln-Broadwell Wolverines. The race takes place this Saturday, October 14th at Maxwell Park in Normal.

Each of the athletes did outstanding at Sectionals. The junior high runners in cross country run a two-mile course.

Taylor Short placed fourth overall at the Sectional meet and she was the second individual qualifier with a time of 12:28.4.

Pierce King placed third overall at Sectionals and he was the first individual qualifier with a PR of 11:05.1.

Henry Stoltzenburg placed fourth overall at Sectionals and he was the second individual qualifier with a PR of 11:07.1.

On Saturday Short is scheduled to run at 10:45 a.m.

Short is a seventh grader at WLB and she is running in her third consecutive state meet.

King and Stoltzenburg are scheduled to run at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and they each ran at State last season as well.

King is an eighth grader at Carroll Catholic.

Stoltzenburg is an eighth grader at WLB.

Henry Stoltzenburg, Pierce King and Taylor Short are headed to compete in the IESA Cross Country State meet in Normal on Saturday. 

Cross Country Coach Kim King said of the trio, who is once again state-bound, “They work super hard and are just awesomely talented kids.”

King added that Stoltzenburg has once again qualified for two state competitions in the same season. He is a state qualifier in both Cross Country and Golf.

The WLB Cross Country team is a co-op with Chester East Lincoln and Carroll Catholic.
