To the editor: What if all of
us in Logan County were to resolve to show civility and serenity
when discussing controversial matters? What if we were to resolve to
avoid disparaging others' character? This suggestion is made in the
wake of recent disturbing reports of fractious public meetings.
What if each elected body in Logan County were to resolve henceforth
to serve as a living example of civility? We could all pledge to
follow the advice of Lincoln native Reinhold Niebuhr who taught us
that the key to civility is to change the things that ought to be
changed while agreeing to live calmly with things that cannot be
changed.
