Lincoln
hosted the Decatur MacArthur Generals on Tuesday night in the last
Central State Eight matchup of the season.
Lincoln dominated the Generals, winning 25-8 and 25-13 in the
Varsity match.
Rebecca Burge and Makia Hassebrock each led the team with 6 kills.
Set one
Lincoln was off to a 6-0 lead in set one, with Peyton Sasse and
Alyssa Company collecting kills early. The Lady Railers earned a
14-1 lead with Sasse tallying a couple more kills. With Rebecca
Burge and Makia Hassebrock also taking advantage of the Generals
weaknesses at the net, they earned kills for Lincoln and quickly the
score escalated to 19-3. Back-to-back kills by Kloe Froebe and
Hassebrock allowed Lincoln a 23-7 lead. Company added one more kill
in the set and after a tip by Froebe to end things, Lincoln won set
one 25-8.
Set two
The Generals made set two a little closer to start. After a 4-4 tie,
the Lady Railers found a groove and took an 8-5 lead on a kill by
Hassebrock. A string of errors by the Generals allowed Lincoln to
jump ahead 12-6. After Froebe and Company recorded kills, the
Lincoln lead was 14-7. Another kill by Froebe made the score 15-9.
Sasse’s kill put Lincoln up 18-11. Hassebrock was not shy swinging
and her kill quieted the Generals as the score showed 20-13. Burge’s
kill pretty much killed the Generals spirit and set the score at
23-13. Sasse ended the battle with an ace and the final score in set
two was 25-13.
Lincoln’s talent far exceeded that of the Generals and it was a
pretty quick 35 minutes of Varsity volleyball for fans who filled
the gym on Senior Night.
Those seniors recognized before the Varsity game, along with their
parents, were: Taryn Stoltzenburg, Becca Heitzig, Kloe Froebe,
Arianna Morris, Jenna Bowman, Addy Qualters, Alyssa Company, Avery
Rawlins and Addison Rawlins.
Lincoln improves their record to 29-4 on the season.
The Lady Railers finish the season with a 9-1 record in the Central
State Eight Conference.

After the win, Coach Kaylee Lowery said, “We’ve had
a great season so far. The seniors are a major contribution to that.
They all have an incredible worth ethic, whether it is volleyball,
academics, or another sport, they are prepared and eager to put in
the work to get the results. I’m extremely grateful to have them as
seniors to show the underclassmen what they are working towards and
to be able to look up to them as role models. They are a great group
that I will miss greatly after this year. I know that each of them
will be very successful in whatever they choose to do and I hope
that they are proud to have been a part of and contribute to what is
Railer Volleyball. If anyone didn’t make it out to Senior Night
tonight, we have our last regular season game and last home game
Thursday. We hope to have a big crowd for our last game in Roy S.
this year.”
In the JV contest, Lincoln won 25-8 and 25-7.
In the Freshman contest, Lincoln won 15-4, 15-5 and 15-5.
