The
business is owned and operated by Tim Brady with Wendy by his side
along with a crew of hardworking people who help keep the business
running, often working from sunup to sundown to assure that projects
are completed as promised.
Brady started out on his own, working from home in 1999. He had
gained some work experience from his dad Allen and took that
experience and started working independently as a painter and doing
some construction. As time progressed, his reputation for doing
quality work at an honest and reasonable price brought him more and
more business.
He and Wendy have been a couple for more than 15 years, and together
they built the business and have made it successful. Tim said that
it reached the point where that working from home and working alone
was no longer an option. He was fortunate to be able to meet and
rent property from Fran Wilson at 715 Woodlawn. He said she was a
good landlord that had been easy to work with through the years.
The Wilson’s had owned the property where they operated Wilson’s
Furniture into the early 2000s. They rented the property to a couple
of other businesses after closing the furniture store, but none
ended up being long term. Then Brady took on the property and
settled in quite nicely.
Brady said in a recent visit with Lincoln Daily News,
that a lot of his work came from referrals and word of mouth. He
said happy customers will tell their friends and family about Brady
Painting and that has helped the business grow.
He said that even so, not everyone is aware of all the work and
services that the business does offer. Wendy interjected that
perhaps an easy way to put it is that the business does not do
carpet, wallpaper or concrete work. But, if a client needs those
services, Brady will certainly assist them in finding the people
they need.
The company does drywall and interior painting. They also do
construction, and Tim noted that the new gaming room at the Apollo
Mart in Lincoln was built by him and his crew.
The company has also done work with charitable organizations such as
Habitat for Humanity. He said that the house on Tremont Street in
Lincoln had a lot of Brady work inside. He noted that the fireplace
mantel in the home had been a challenge that his crew took on and
were very pleased with the outcome.
Brady also supports the Friends and Family Relay Team and
fundraisers for the American Cancer Society with donations of gifts
to be auctioned off at the Pink Pumpkin fundraiser held in October
of each year. Those donations are made up of items that have been
created by or at least hand chosen by Wendy.
One aspect of the business that Brady said is not as well known as
others is the cleaning service that they offer. Brady said they have
a person running that portion of the business that does an excellent
job with commercial and residential cleaning services. They charge
an hourly rate and customize services to the needs of the client.
Brady said that he and Wendy are working toward growing the cleaning
service and doing more to get the word out about it.
In addition to Brady and Wendy, Tim said his son Cody is now a
full-time member of the company working alongside four other
employees on the painting and construction sides of the business. He
said it was good to see his son coming into the business, and he
held high hopes that Cody will be a permanent part of the future of
Brady painting and Construction.
Saturday morning it was hot, with promises that it would be the
hottest day of the year thus far. In the parking lot, Brady had
tents set up with displays provided by one of the businesses vendors
Richards Supply. There was a table of give away items for those who
braved the heat to come be a part of the day at Brady’s, and the
grill was fired up for cooking hot dogs to be handed out to guests
throughout the event. Lincoln Daily News
hosted a ribbon cutting event to kick off the event. At just after
11 a.m. everyone was called to stop what they were doing and help
celebrate Brady’s with the cutting event.
Tim and Wendy along with Cody came to the front, surrounded by the
rest of the staff, the landlord Fran Wilson, and Lincoln Mayor Tracy
Welch and Alderman Steve Parrott.

The opening statements by Nila Smith pointed out that
the celebration and ribbon cutting on this day was about longevity,
but also about one person starting a business on his own and
building it into something successful. It was mentioned that Tim
Brady had started out working from home and that his reputation for
good work followed him and helped him grow his business. He and
Wendy have spent the last 15 years working to make the business what
it is today.
Mayor Welch was asked if he would like to speak. He began by saying
that he had known Tim and Wendy for many years, and that he had them
work at him home and at his parents’ home. He said they had built
their business on reputation and with a good team behind them. He
congratulated them on their success and wished them much more to
come.
Alderman Parrott also addressed the group. He said that he really
appreciated the businesspeople outside of the downtown square area.
He said, often those outside of the square are under appreciated, so
he wanted to be clear that Brady’s and other businesses out of the
heart of the city are important to the community.
The last person to speak was Tim Brady. He said that first he wanted
to thank everyone for coming, and for supporting Brady’s. He
reminded everyone that the day was just starting, and he hoped folks
would stick around after and enjoy some food and a time to visit
with the Brady’s crew. He closed by saying he wanted to acknowledge
all the crew and voiced the sentiment “We have the best staff here
in Logan County.”
The group was invited to smile for the cameras that were grabbing
quick shots, then everyone assisted with the countdown and when the
time arrived Tim and Wendy cut the ribbon on the day.
The celebration continued until approximately 2 p.m. with friends,
family, the staff, and customers enjoying a time together.
