Obituary

Stuart Howard “Stu” Elmer, 78, of rural Elkhart, passed away Saturday, October 7th, 2023, at his home.

Stu was born on February 8th, 1945, in Springfield. He married Judi Wenzel on November 25th, 1978, in Shawneetown.

Stu is survived by his wife Judi, and they have been together for over 52 years. He is also survived by his daughter, Ami Lawson (Anthony Herron); grandchildren, Blake (Mackenzie) Lawson, and Camdyn Lawson; and his brother, Rick (Tabitha) Pritchard.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ed Pritchard.

Stu was born and raised in Springfield, and graduated from Lanphier High School. He served as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam war. After his service in the Marines, Stu went to work as a sheet metal worker for Standard Aero in Springfield, where he would remain for over 50 years building many lifelong friendships with his co-workers and work family.

He and Judi enjoyed their family home in the rural Elkhart/Cornland area, where they also built many lifelong friendships with their neighbors over the years. Stu was an avid Chicago Cubs fan (which was mainly influenced by his wife, Judi). Most of all, Stu loved spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren.

A celebration of Stu’s life will be held at a later date.
