Obituary
Kenneth Allen Buckles, 79, of Mt.
Pulaski, passed away at 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday,
September 5, 2023, at Vonderlieth Living Center in
Mt. Pulaski.
Ken was born on March 1, 1944, in Decatur, to Leland
E. and Mary Katharine (Lucas) Buckles. He married
Mary Lynn Gosda on December 18, 1966, in Forest
City, IL. She survives him.
Also surviving are his three daughters, Lora Lynn
(Matthew) Cote of Downers Grove, IL, Elizabeth Anne
(Roy) Hoagland of Charleston, SC, and Mary Katharine
“Kati” Buckles of Mt. Pulaski, his siblings, Robert
(Charlotte) Buckles of Forked River, NJ, Neil
(Coral) Buckles of St. Charles, Kathy (Ron) Catton
of Bradenton, FL, and Janet (Fredy) Tuchscherer of
Goodyear, AZ; and his seven grandchildren, Jessica
(Tom) Akroyd, Cassandra (Colton) St. Louis, Amelia
Kuhlman, Lucas Kuhlman, Oran Kuhlman, Riley Cote,
and Layne Cote; as well as many special nieces and
nephews.

Ken was a lifelong farmer and had a
deep love for nature, the land, and the trees. He
had a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois
University in Agricultural Industry and was a member
of Alpha Gamma Rho. He served his country for four
years in the United States Air Force, then three
years in the Air National Guard. He was a former
Commander of the American Legion Post #447 and
Adjutant Financial Advisor. Ken was also a former
road commissioner for Lake Fork Township and served
as member of the Board of Directors for Farmers
Grain of Latham.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on
Friday, September 15, 2023, at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski,
with Casey McCormick officiating. There will be a
visitation two hours prior from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
also at the funeral home. A private family burial
will take place at a later date.

#447 or SIU School of Agriculture.
