The
Lady Railers defeated the Mount Zion Braves Monday night in two
quick sets, 25-12 and 25-11 the scores.
Set one
Lincoln began to pull away in set one after the score was tied 3-3
early. A tip by Rebecca Burge and two Mount Zion errors put Lincoln
in front to stay with the score 6-3. After a kill by Makia
Hassebrock later in the set, the Lady Railers held a 9-4 lead.
Lincoln used a 4-0 run to take a larger lead over the Braves. The
highlight of the run was a kill by Kloe Froebe. With Lincoln up 13-5
the Braves called a timeout. The Lady Railers continued to increase
their lead over the Braves with scores of 16-7 and 20-9. The Braves
called another timeout with the score 22-11 but this had no ill
effect on Lincoln. The Braves buried themselves with errors. Froebe
did have one more kill as the game was nearing the end. The set
ended on a long serve by the Braves that zoomed past Lincoln’s back
row and towards the wall of the gymnasium. Lincoln won the first set
rather handily 25-12.
Set two
Lincoln went up 3-1 in set two on the quick set to Froebe, who then
earned the kill. After a tip by Alyssa Company, the Lady Railers
were up 5-1. Company picked up another point for her team on the
kill off the quick set in the middle. A kill by Peyton Sasse made
the score 8-2. Burge added two more kills as the Lady Railers were
switching things up a bit in the lineup. Lincoln made things look
pretty easy with a 12-4 lead. Burge was on a roll from the middle
and her third kill of the set put Lincoln up 13-7. Lincoln’s offense
really caught fire next and impressively went on an 8-0 run.
Hassebrock, Sasse and Froebe each had kills while Taryn Stoltzenburg
served three aces to cap off the run at 21-8. Sasse added two more
kills at the end of the set and Lincoln was ready to walk off the
court at 7:59 p.m. with a 25-11 win.
Coach Kaylee Lowery was pleased to get a win on the road and call it
a night early.

“It was a good win,” said Lowery. “We stayed
focused and took care of business. We know with being highly ranked
that we have a target on our backs and teams are going to come out
and give us all they got. We know that we have to come into each
game focused and execute. Rebecca Burge has been a huge factor in
our last couple wins. Tonight she swung extremely well while
providing 6 kills, 1 block, and 2 digs. Kloe Froebe and Peyton Sasse
both had 7 kills each and Becca Heitzig and Taryn Stoltzenburg were
solid in the back row. It’s great to see us play equally solid. Each
player had their moments and it was truly a team win tonight with
everyone stepping up and playing their own part and playing it
well.”
Lincoln is now 20-2 on the season.
The Lincoln Junior Varsity team defeated Mount Zion in two sets,
25-23 and 25-22.
The Freshman team defeated Mount Zion 19-21, 21-16 and 15-13.
The Lady Railers will welcome the Taylorville Tornadoes to town on
Thursday night. This is sure to be a good game between two really
good teams. Taylorville finished fourth in the 2022 IHSA Class 3A
State Volleyball Tournament.
