Obituary
Joseph P. Hackett, 80, of Emden,
passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023 at his home.
He was born December13, 1942 to Horace and Bernice
Mahler Hackett. He met Irene Rademaker at Lehn and
Fink in Lincoln and married on February 22, 1964 in
Emden, and she passed away November 17, 2021.
Surviving are his children, Gwen (Bill) Boyce of
Havana, Beth (Paul) Bryan of Emden, Greg Hackett of
Emden, and Josh Hackett of Staunton; six
grandchildren, Savanna Hackett of Lincoln, Eli Bryan
of Emden, Zach (Ashley) Bryan of San Jose, Andy (Kierra)
Boyce of Pleasant Plains, Katie (Ben) Dial of
Mapleton, and Kellie (fiancé Eli Herron) Boyce of
Havana; three great grandchildren, Ezra Boyce, Clark
Bryan, and David Dial; nephews and niece, Matt,
Shaun, and Megan Rademaker, all of San Jose; and
brother-in-law, Vernon Rademaker of San Jose.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son,
Tony.
Joe taught sixth grade at Washington Monroe Grade
School and fifth grade at Central Grade School, both
in Lincoln, enjoyed coaching track for the junior
high school and high school, and was a history tutor
at Lincoln College. He also worked for decades at
Dare Detasseling and was also involved with his
son’s DJ business for 20 years.
He served in the United States Marines during
Vietnam and was a member of the Emden American
Legion post 506 for 45 years.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in
Emden where he served as Sunday school
superintendent for many years, taught children’s
sermons, and confirmation classes. He was also a
member of Kogudus Renewal Ministry. |
Joe was known as the “candy man” by many of
his family and friends. He was an avid supporter of his
children and grandchildren’s sporting events, loved to watch
San Francisco 49ers Football and the Giants baseball, and
anything Elvis.
His funeral will be at 10:30 am Tuesday,
September 26, 2023 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden.
Pastor Keith Ray and John Cross will officiate. Visitation
will be from 4 to 7 pm Monday and from 9:30 to 10:15 am
Tuesday, both at the church. Burial will be in Hartsburg
Cemetery. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling
the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Sons of the American Legion, Refuge
Ranch, or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Preschool. |
