Plea from the Mt. Pulaski Tree Committee

[September 28, 2023]

This past year, a large number of trees were removed, due to hazardous conditions, rot, disease/fungus, storm damage, etc. We have a real need to replace them with new plantings.

The inventory that was conducted a few years ago, indicated we have over 100 planting spaces available, not counting the recent removals. It is important that we fill as many of these spaces as possible.

This is the time of the year to consider planting and caring for some of these new additions. If anyone thinks they have planting space available on the City boulevard, contact City Hall and pick up a “Tree Request to Plant'' form and mark the space on the City property/boulevard for the new planting. Return your Tree Request to City Hall, then the City will forward your Tree Request to the Tree Committee for review. The tree committee will check the location to be sure it is not too close to other trees, waterways, cross streets, driveways, garages, etc. Approval or denial will then be recommended by the Tree Committee.

There is also a list of trees which are not appropriate, so check with City Hall, if you are in doubt. (form is attached) A reimbursement of $50 is available for each planting. Just present your receipt to City Hall to process for payment, then Council approval.

Many thanks, to any and all, who are willing to help improve our community and our quality of life.

Tree requests / other tree information is also available, via this link on the City's website: https://cityofmtpulaski.com/contact/permits-and-requests.
