[September 24, 2023]  State Senator Sally Turner and State Representative Bill Hauter hosted a Senior Health Fair on Friday, September 22 at the Oasis Senior Center in Lincoln.

This free event had a variety of vendors available to provide information about programs and services that benefit senior citizens.

Senator Turner and Representative Hauter provided a breakfast of fruit, doughnuts, and coffee for attendees to enjoy while perusing the informational booths set up by local and state organizations that serve senior citizens of Illinois.

Elaine Woolard represented one of these vendors, Age Linc, the Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland, which offers support services for people of 60+ years and family caregivers. Woolard stated that Age Linc “can help seniors connect with the state and with the services they provide so they know they can get help.”

Many vendors offered similar information on aging, wellness, insurance, and skilled-care facilities. Memorial Health system also had several tables available for health screenings and health information.

Just before 10:30 a.m. Senator Turner addressed the crowd thanking the vendors for their participation. She mentioned her own experience caring for her father and the valuable information the vendors provide that was “helpful for navigating.”

Senator Turner then drew winners for two of the four door prizes for those who registered at the door. Representative Hauter, unable to attend due to his work as a physician, provided gift cards for IGA, and Senator Turner provided free tickets to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum nestled in a coffee mug.

The Senior Health Fair is an annual event providing up-to-date information for senior citizens, as well as refreshments, swag, and a chance to chat with those who represent Lincoln in state government. This year’s health fair saw a good turn out from the seniors of the community taking advantage of all that was on offer to support better health.
