The Lincoln Railsplitters played two games on Saturday in the Mahomet-Seymour Round Robin Tournament, ending the day with a win and a loss.

In the first game of the day, the Railsplitters lost to Carmel Catholic 6-5 on a late inning home run.

In the second game, Lincoln defeated Mahomet-Seymour 3-1 behind a spectacular pitching performance by Carson Fuiten.

The Carmel Catholic Corsairs opened the game with a home run off starter Brenden Wurth on Saturday afternoon. After Wurth hit the next batter, the Railsplitters erased that baserunner on the unassisted double play by first baseman Jarrett Evers. Lincoln escaped the first inning without further damage.

Lincoln was quick to erase the 1-0 Corsairs lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Corsairs handed Lincoln the first run after two walks and two errors in the inning. Griffin Shaw added an RBI double to allow the Railsplitters to take a 2-1 lead.

Lincoln plated two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Karson Komnick’s single to right started the offense. Colbie Glenn then reached on an error. Austin Lucas, pinch running for Komnick, scored on a passed ball just ahead of Michael Lucas grounding out to the shortstop to score Glenn.

Lincoln added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring on an error by the shortstop.

The Corsairs chipped away at the 5-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning, scoring twice. The big hit of the inning was the RBI double but that would not be the biggest hit of the day.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Corsairs’ third baseman, Zach Case, tagged Colbie Glenn for a three-run home run and Carmel took a 6-5 lead that ultimately led them to the victory.

Colbie Glenn took the loss for Lincoln. Glenn worked the final two innings, allowing three runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out one.

Brenden Wurth started the game and lasted five innings. Wurth allowed three hits and one run. He struck out three and walked none.

Ashton Corley pitched to two batters in the sixth inning, allowing a hit and a walk.

Griffin Shaw and Karson Komnick led the Lincoln offense. Shaw was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Komnick was 2-for-3.

Michael Lucas and Ashton Corley had one hit apiece for Lincoln.

Mahomet-Seymour 1

Carson Fuiten’s spectacular performance on the mound Saturday afternoon propelled the Railsplitters back into the win column. Fuiten tossed the complete seven innings versus Mahomet-Seymour, allowing five hits and one unearned run. He walked two and struck out four, earning the win for Lincoln by a final score of 3-1. Fuiten had great defense backing him up with the help of two inning-ending double plays in the game.

Lincoln put up single runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

Colbie Glenn drove in Wes Tedrick on an RBI single in the top of the second inning.

Griffin Shaw batted in Brenden Wurth on an RBI single in the top of the third inning.

Michael Lucas smacked a two-out double in the top of the fourth inning and he scored on an error by the third baseman, giving Lincoln the 3-0 advantage. The inning ended with Jarrett Evers out at home trying to advance on the single by Wurth.

The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning and after an error by Kyle Koehler, one run scored. A disaster was averted when the Lincoln defense turned a double play to end the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Fuiten calmly retired the side on a fly ball to center, a line drive out to right and a ground out to second.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Fuiten used two strikeouts and a ground out to shut down the Bulldogs.

Colbie Glenn was the hitting star in the 3-1 win. Glenn went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Michael Lucas, Brenden Wurth, Trey Schilling and Griffin Shaw each had one hit.

Lincoln’s record remains even at 4-4 on the season.

The Railsplitters will play at Rochester Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
