Obituary
Betty M. McLellan, 94, of Atlanta,
passed away at St. Clara’s Rehab & Senior Care
Center in Lincoln on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
Services for Betty will be held on Thursday, April
4, 2024, at the Atlanta Christian Church. Visitation
will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by funeral services
at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Maurice Stribling will officiate.
Burial will follow at Mountjoy Cemetery in rural
Atlanta.
Betty Mae Brandt was born July 23, 1929, in Hittle
Township, Tazewell County, Illinois, the daughter of
Ralph L. and Harriet I. Irvin Brandt. She was first
married to Yale Young, who was the father of her
three children. She later married Jim McLellan on
July 2, 1977. He preceded Betty in death on June 4,
1995.
Betty is survived by children: Tommy J. Young,
Yaletta J. Batterton, Tony R. (Lisa Huth) Young, and
Sherry I. McLellan Hendricks; grandchildren: Lyn
Harris, Tara (Glenn) Miller Heerde, Laura (Tim)
O’Donnell, Shelley (Brian) Jakowitsch, Deanna
(Jason) Campbell, Yale (Abby) Young, Leigh (Travis)
Demling, Cody Hendricks, and Adam (Amanda)
Hendricks; 25 great-grandchildren; 1
great-great-grandson; and two siblings: Larry J.
(Judy Gardner) Brandt and Gary L. Brandt. |
She was preceded in death by one
daughter-in-law, Rosemary Young and one son-in-law,
Len Batterton.
Betty fondly remembered attending Mason School in
rural Armington, Bloomingdale School in rural
Atlanta, and Rose Hill School on Lazy Row near her
home. As an adult, she returned to school to
complete her diploma and graduated with honors in
1963 from Atlanta High School. Betty was a member of
Eminence Christian Church in rural Atlanta. She will
be greatly missed by her five generations of family.
Memorials may be made to Atlanta Rescue Squad or
Atlanta Fire Department.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley
Funeral Home of Atlanta.
