[April 07, 2024]

On Monday, April 8, 2024, a solar eclipse will be visible across the entire United States. The moon is expected to pass in front of the sun in Central Illinois around 1:58pm.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), attempting to directly look at the sun while observing an eclipse, no matter how dark, without proper eye protection could cause permanent eye damage. Standard sunglasses do not offer the needed protection as people need to wear safe eclipse viewers that meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard.

The Logan County Department of Public Health hopes you safely enjoy this rare event. For more information regarding how to view the solar eclipse safely, you can read the IDPH press release at https://www.illinois.gov/news/press-release.29847.html.
