Joining
Lindsay behind the ribbon were husband Nick, son Drake and her
father Mike Crawley. Along with her family, Lincoln Mayor Tracy
Welch was on hand along with alderpersons Kevin Bateman, Wanda Lee
Rohlfs, and David Sanders, Lincoln City Clerk Peggy Bateman, Lexie
Groves with the Logan County Tourism Bureau and the 2023 Miss Logan
County Fair Queen Ellyn Martinez. Holding the ribbon for the cut was
Tourism Director Alice Roate and Karen Castelein of Lincoln Daily
News. The cutting ceremony was led by Nila Smith with Lincoln Daily
News.
Several members of Lindsay's family were among the
large group who witnessed the ribbon cut.
The McCloughan’s moved to Lincoln in 2018 from Springfield for Nicks
job at International Paper. Lindsay explained earlier in the week in
a meeting with LDN that Nick was working the third shift and those
late night drives to and from work were becoming a hassle. The
family had the opportunity to purchase a home in Lincoln and did so.
Lindsay said that this is her debut as a business
owner though she has worked in one local flower shop for a bit.
While her plan is to sell cut flowers and arrangements her passion
is in house plants. She shared that she has over 200 house plants in
her home and some, but not all of the plants she will sell in her
store will come from starts of her personal collection.
Lindsay said that her passion for plants is a
reflection of her relationship with her late mother. She and her mom
shared the love of houseplants, and it was generational. She said
her grandmother was also a plant person, though she enjoyed outdoor
beds. Lindsay said that the house plants help her to feel close to
her mom and are a big part of how she remembers and honors her.
The store will have fresh cuts, will sell floral arrangements, and
will offer a “Bloom Bar.” McCloughan said this is a fresh new
concept in Lincoln as she doesn’t know any other shop that offers
this.
A Bloom Bar is a place where that customers may come
in and gather stems to make their own flower arrangements.
McCloughan said that each stem will be priced so as shoppers work on
their arrangements they won’t have any surprises at checkout.
The store is filled with a wide variety of house
plants, and also other decorator items to complement the plants,
such as hangers, plant stands, planters or pots and of course, tee
shirts that reflect the personality of the true plant lover.
At the ribbon cutting Friday evening, Smith thanked all those who
had come for the event and introduced the McCloughan’s.
The first person to address the crowd was Mayor
Welch. He said he had met the McCloughan’s and wanted to welcome
them to the community and wish them all the best in this new
endeavor. He said that building business throughout the city was
important and he was happy to see something new in the small strip
mall located across the road from RP Lumber.

McCloughan thanked everyone for coming and thanked
her family for their support in making her dream a reality. She had
with her a photo of her mother and dedicated the shop in her memory.
Then it was time to cut the ribbon. After the
traditional posed photo the large crowd in attendance assisted with
the count down and McCloughan snipped the ribbon on her new
business.
Wild Petals is located at 517 Woodlawn, look for the picket fence.
