A solid outing on the mound by Lincoln senior Wyatt Mammen and one big offensive inning by the Railsplitters were enough to secure a 4-2 victory over Champaign Central on Thursday afternoon at Mike Curry Field.

Mammen tossed a complete game, giving up four hits and just one earned run. He walked one batter and struck out nine. Mammen faced 28 batters over seven innings, throwing 91 pitches. He recorded 62 of those pitches for strikes.

With the top of the order coming to bat in the third inning for Lincoln, Colbie Glenn got things started with a double to right. Trey Schilling walked and Jarrett Evers was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Michael Lucas grounded out to the pitcher, but Glenn was able to score the Railsplitters first run of the game.

After Schilling scored the next run on a wild pitch, Griffin Shaw singled to score Evers and the score was 3-0. Brenden Wurth’s double then advanced Evers to third and after a ground out to the shortstop by Drew Hayes, Shaw scored the Railsplitters fourth run of the inning.

The Maroons plated single runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings. Despite an error, a walk and a single in the top of the seventh inning, Mammen was able to record three strikeouts in the inning and Lincoln held on for the 4-2 win.

Colbie Glenn was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Brenden Wurth was also 2-for-3 at the plate.

Jarrett Evers and Griffin Shaw had one hit apiece for Lincoln.

The Railsplitters improved to 6-6 on the season.

Lincoln will host Taylorville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and Annawan/Wethersfield at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
