Heartland Community College hosts Illinois Prison Project panelists

 

[April 10, 2024]    Heartland Community College students and the general public will have an opportunity to learn about the incarceration experience at a symposium held on the Main Campus of the college.

The Heartland Community College Honors program is presenting “Redemption, Resilience, & Reclamation: The Lives of Women in the Criminal Justice System” at the Astroth Community Education Center (ACEC) Auditorium from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17.

The speaking event features panelists from the Illinois Prison Project (IPP), who will discuss the incarceration experience, the impact on their lives, and the barriers they have faced upon re-entry after release.

The first hour of the event will be a formal panel presentation leading into the second hour panel and community discussion. Panelists will include IPP Ambassadors of formerly incarcerated women, the Director of IPP's Legal Services, and IPP's Assistant Director of Education.

This event is free and open to the community. Local organizations will have informative tables relevant to many aspects of incarceration, rehabilitation and release.

The event is hosted by Heartland Community College Social Science students and is funded through Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (LASS) Innovative Grant funds established by Heartland.
