Railsplitters sweep doubleheader
Parker Graue and Michael Lucas pick up wins on the mound

It
was a perfect day for baseball at Mike Curry Field on Saturday when
the Lincoln Railsplitters took the field for a doubleheader. Under
blue skies and sunshine Lincoln defeated Taylorville 3-2 in game one
with Parker Graue nearly going the distance for the win. In game two
Michael Lucas earned the win in relief as Lincoln won a high-scoring
affair over Annawan/Wethersfield 12-9.

The Railsplitters scored twice in the bottom of the second inning
when Colbie Glenn drove in a run on a single to left and Trey
Schilling earned an RBI on his ground out to the shortstop. Karson
Komnick and Wes Tedrick also had singles in the inning.
A bases loaded walk scored another run for Lincoln in the bottom of
the third inning. With two outs to start the inning, Brenden Wurth
and Drew Hayes each walked and Komnick reached base on a fielder’s
choice. Tedrick then drew a walk to force Wurth in to score the
third Lincoln run.
Taylorville scored one run on an error in the top of the fifth
inning.
In the top of the seventh inning Taylorville’s Clark Durbin slugged
an RBI double to trim the lead to 3-2 with two outs. Colbie Glenn
relieved Graue to retire the last batter of the game on a strikeout.
Glenn threw three strikes to leave Durbin stranded at second with
the tying run.
Lincoln escapes the nail biter with a 3-2 win to boost their record
over .500 again.
Parker Graue earned the win for Lincoln. He worked six and
two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and two runs. Only one run
was earned. He struck out three and walked one.
Colbie Glenn picked up the save in relief.
Jarrett Evers, Michael Lucas, Drew Hayes, Karson Komnick, Wes
Tedrick and Colbie Glenn each had a hit for Lincoln.
Glenn, Schilling and Tedrick each had RBIs.
Baron Odam took the loss for Taylorville.
Game two

Colbie Glenn started game two for Lincoln and after falling behind
2-0 in the top of the second inning, the Railsplitters got things
going in their half of the inning.
A lead-off walk to Brenden Wurth started the Railsplitters second
inning. Griffin Shaw’s double to center brought Wurth home with the
first run. Trey Schilling’s double to left brought home Shaw to tie
the game.
In the top of the third inning the Titans took a 5-2 lead over
Lincoln.

In the bottom of the third inning the Titans
pitching got a little crazy with two walks, a hit batter and a wild
pitch, giving Lincoln the easy opportunity to score a run.
After two quick outs in the top of the fourth inning, the Titans
pounded out six straight hits and took a 9-3 lead.
The Railsplitters chipped away at the lead in a big way in the
bottom of the fourth inning, scoring five runs. Colbie Glenn,
Michael Lucas, Brenden Wurth and Trey Schilling each had singles in
the inning. Lincoln also drew a couple walks and with an error and a
hit by pitch in the inning, the Railsplitters capitalized and in the
blink of an eye the score was 9-8.
Lincoln took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Michael Lucas cracked a lead-off triple to center and he would
remain stuck there while Jarrett Evers and Griffin Shaw were each
hit by a pitch. Schilling walked in his at bat to force Shaw home
with the tying run. Drew Hayes’ ground out to second scored Evers
with the go-ahead run.
Brenden Wurth added a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth
inning for insurance.
Lucas finished the game quickly on eight pitches in the seventh
inning. Even though he gave up a single, there was no real threat
for the Titans to score. Lucas was having himself a day on the mound
and at the plate, as Lincoln won by a final score of 12-9.
Michael Lucas earned the win by pitching three and one-third innings
in relief. He allowed two hits and struck out two and walked two.
Starter Colbie Glenn worked three innings, allowing nine hits and
four earned runs. He walked one and struck out three.
Trey Schilling pitched two-thirds of an inning in
the middle. He gave up six hits and four earned runs while striking
out one batter.
Lucas and Glenn each led the team with three hits apiece versus the
Titans.
Lucas was 3-for-5 with three runs scored.
Glenn was 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Trey Schilling was 2-for-2 with three RBIs.
Brenden Wurth was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Griffin Shaw and Wes Tedrick each had one hit.
Lincoln improved their record to 8-6 on the season.
Lincoln will play at Lanphier on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
