Heartland Students nominated for Illinois Community College Trustees Association awards

[April 11, 2024]    Four Heartland Community College students have been nominated for state-level awards from the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA).

The ICCTA awards recognize outstanding contributions from people and programs at community colleges in the state of Illinois and are given annually in several categories. Four students were selected as the college-wide nominees for their respective categories and will received recognition at the April Board of Trustees meeting.


Daniel Golladay, Andria Merkle, Parker Newton, Annastaja Buffington

Daniel Joshua Golladay is the Heartland nominee for the Paul Simon Student Essay Contest. The ICCTA awards the essay that is deemed to best describe "How My Community College Has Changed My Life."

Andria Merkle is nominated for the Gigi Campbell Student Trustee Excellence Scholarship, given to leaders who have been strong advocates for students and community colleges.

Parker Newton is the College’s nominee for the Gregg Chadwick Student Service Scholarship for extraordinary commitment to volunteer service. The award is named after former Heartland Board of Trustees Chair, the late Gregg Chadwick.

Annastaja Buffington is nominated for the Gandhi/King Peace Scholarship for a who best articulates the peaceful messages of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

All currently enrolled students at ICCTA member colleges are eligible to participate each year; however, each college may enter only one student entry per scholarship in the statewide competition per academic year.
