Arizona starter Tommy Henry allowed five runs
and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings, striking out three and walking
one.
Kevin Ginkel (1-0) pitched a scoreless 10th for the
Diamondbacks.
Chicago's Ian Happ had three hits, including a grand slam in the
seventh inning. Nico Hoerner had four hits and scored two runs,
and Miguel Amaya had two hits and two RBIs.
Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks went 4 1/3 innings, allowing seven
runs and five hits. He struck out three and walked three.
Drew Smyly (2-2) gave up the game-winning double by Grichuk.
Cubs closer Adbert Alzolay got two quick outs in the ninth
before Marte lined a home run just over the yellow line in
right-center field to tie it 11-11.
Chicago loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh and got a
sacrifice fly from Christopher Morel and a two-out RBI single
from Garrett Cooper to cut their deficit to 8-7.
After a walk reloaded the bases, Happ lined a home run just
inside the left field foul pole for an 11-8 lead.
An RBI double by Alexander in the seventh cut it to 11-9, and a
sacrifice fly by Pederson in the eighth made it 11-10, setting
up Marte's game-tying homer in the ninth.
Alexander gave Arizona 1-0 lead with an RBI groundout in the
second inning.
Happ and Amaya tied it 1-1 with back-to-back doubles to start
the third.
Gurriel hit a two-run homer with one out in the third, and
Pederson followed with a two-out solo shot to extend the lead to
4-1.
Amaya hit a line drive into the left field corner with one out
in the fifth and the ball got past Gurriel for a triple,
allowing Happ to score from first.
Alexander Canario and Hoerner followed with back-to-back RBI
doubles into the left field corner to tie it 4-4. Cody Bellinger
grounded a one-out RBI triple just inside the first base line to
give Chicago a 5-4 lead.
Luke Little replaced Hendricks with the bases loaded and one out
in the fifth and threw back-to-back wild pitches to move the
Diamondbacks back in front 6-5.
A sacrifice fly from Eugenio Suarez brought in another run
before Alexander came through with an RBI single for an 8-5
lead.
