Thursday evening storms impact Latham area

[April 18, 2024] 

Beginning at approximately 7:20 p.m. Thursday evening scanner transmissions in Logan County indicated that the severe storm that passed through the county brought with it severe damage in the Latham area.

Reports indicated winds at 50, 60, and 70 miles per hour with reports of possible rotation from people on the ground as well as radar indicated rotation.

The transmission indicated a semi-truck roll over on the curve of Route 121 at the Corn Crib. According to radio conversations, the driver was assisted out of the vehicle by fire and rescue personnel. Injuries to the driver were not reported.

In Latham, it was reported via the scanner that a building on Macon Street had collapsed, and a request went out for street closures and a call to Ameren.

There were reports of multiple structures with roof damage, trees down, and power poles snapped.
