Railers softball team has rough week

[April 22, 2024]    The Lincoln Railers softball team was 0-4 for the week.

On Monday the girls lost 6-1 to East Peoria at home. An RBI double by Regan Kutz scored Taryn Stoltzenburg with the only run of the game.

 

On Wednesday the team lost 14-4 to Normal University High at home. Lincoln scored two runs in the fourth inning on a passed ball and an error by the catcher. Kelsey Marten and Faith Eckhardt each had RBI singles for Lincoln in the fifth inning.

On Saturday the team dropped a 17-7 contest with Charleston and then turned around to lose 7-2 to Mount Vernon. Both games were in Charleston.

In the game against Charleston, Lincoln was up 7-3 early before the Trojans went on a tear, scoring fourteen runs in the remaining innings. Lincoln scored in the first inning on an RBI double by Marten. Regan Kutz added a two-run double in the second inning. Eckhardt also drove in two runs with a single in the second inning.

Charleston tied the game 7-7 in their half of the second inning and it was all Trojans from there on out. They went on to win 17-7 in six innings.

In the game with Mount Vernon, Lincoln found themselves down 6-0 before putting up two runs in the fifth inning. Grey Gilbert drove in a run on a bunt single and Kutz drove in another run on a sacrifice fly.

Mount Vernon picked up another run in the top of the seventh inning and sent Lincoln home with a 7-2 loss.

The Railers fall to 6-15 on the season.

Lincoln will host Bloomington on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
