Heartland Community College formally opened the Gregg Chadwick Community Board room on Tuesday, April 16.

Earlier this year, the District 540 Board of Trustees approved the naming of the remodeled large conference room located in the Community Commons Building on the Main Campus in Normal to honor late Board of Trustees Chair Chadwick.

The remodeled 3,255 square foot space is one of the primary large conference spaces at the College for internal and external events and is the primary site of the monthly Board of Trustees meetings.

Chadwick passed away in the summer of 2021. At the time he was serving as both chair of Heartland’s District 540 Board of Trustees as well as President of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA).

“It is only fitting that we dedicate this space, where the Board continues to do the work of the College, to Gregg," said Trustee Jeff Flessner. "Heartland would not be the place it is today without the efforts he made and those he inspired with his leadership. We are all better for knowing him."

Chadwick served on the HCC Board of Trustees beginning in 2002 and was elected Chair of the Board in 2009. He had also served the ICCTA in previous roles, including Treasurer (2009-2010), Chair of the Government Relations and Public Policy Committee (2017-2019), and as Vice President (2019-2020). Chadwick served as Chief Operating Officer at Marcfirst (now known as Lifelong Access) in Normal.

In 2021, the ICCTA Board Representatives established the Gregg Chadwick Student Service Scholarship, which is awarded to a community college student who exhibits dedication to public service.
